Can’t-pass-up pancakes in Edmonton

The perfect morning-after breakfast or brunch food. They’re easy to make but nothing tastes quite like when you order them up at a diner. Griddlecakes, flapjacks, hotcakes, pancakes - regardless of what you call them, they’re pretty awesome with some butter and maple syrup.

What else would you expect from a place like this but good, wholesome, diner-style pancakes? They’re plentiful and tasty and come with lots of maple syrup.

Route Ninety Nine

2

They always offers fast and friendly service, but don’t expect much from the decor. Their pancakes are typical diner-style pancakes - thick, fluffy and, of course, filling.

Urban Diner

12427 102 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5N 0M2

This spot calls them Dutch poffertjes (basically, mini pancakes). They’re topped with icing sugar, and come with a side of chocolate and maple syrup for dipping. You can get them in 12, 18 or 24 count.

Hathaway's Diner

4
13225 132 Street Northwest, Edmonton, AB T5L 1R9

A big stack o’ pancakes, for a little stack o’ cash. That’s Hathaway’s Diner for you. And with an all-day breakfast, you can come in any time for these griddlecakes.

Commodore Restaurant

10712 Jasper Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 2A7

Amazing, soft, fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth, mouth-watering buttermilk pancakes. You really don’t need any fancy toppings for these bad boys. Just butter, syrup and, OK, maybe a lil’ whipped cream.

Cafe Mosaics

10844 82 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 2B3

And now, for my vegetarian and vegan friends alike, a little something sweet for you. Vegan homestyle pancakes with vegan cream, maple syrup, fruit, vegan bacon and peanut butter. Enjoy!

Hap's Hungry House

7
16060 Stony Plain Rd NW, Edmonton, AB T5P 3Z9

Their hotcake combos are perfect for the hungry (wo)man in all of us. On a really hungry day, I go for the large combo (two eggs, three hotcakes) and either ham or a sausage link.

Artisan Resto

8
10732 82 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 6P4

They serve up some tasty buttermilk pancakes. Here is where I like to live on the wild side and order banana chocolate pancakes. I know what you’re thinking: Stop being crazy! But trust me, they’re worth it.

Barb & Ernie's Restaurant

9
9906 72 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 0Z3

This place boasts the biggest hotcakes in town. There’s no arguing that point. All you need is one - trust me. And they’re awesome. You also get your choice of topping to go along with it, and there’s a few good ones to choose from. Yum!

On a cold, snowy Edmonton night, nothing says lovin’ like a cup of hot chocolate. It’s no surprise this drink was originally dubbed the “elixir of the gods.” Regardless of the variety you select, or whether you opt for the simplest hot chocolate on the menu, all I can say is ... don’t forget the marshmallows.

Paired with a nice cup of coffee or topped with a scoop of ice cream, pie is unbeatable comfort food. And yet it faces stiff competition from cupcakes as the city’s dessert of choice. Well, pie is fighting back with old fashioned deliciousness as well as new and tantalizing flavours.
