Movember is your once-a-year chance to embrace the moustache lifestyle. Follow these 5 tips to help you grow your mo, wear it with confidence, and enjoy the fun that comes with joining millions around the world in supporting cancer research and men’s health.

5 tips for making this a Movember to remember

1. Know why you grow your mo

It’s surprising how many Mo Bros aren’t aware of the reason they’re sprouting a moustache in November. Long story short, you’re doing it to raise awareness and funding for research on men’s health issues like testicular and prostate cancer. But don’t take our word for it, check out the Movember Foundation website for more information and inspiration – it’ll make your Movember that much more meaningful.

1. Know why you grow your mo

2. Make it count

Now that you know what Movember is all about (if you didn’t already), it’s time to put that knowledge into action. The funds raised worldwide by Movember – close to $1 billion since 2003 – make a real difference, and you can be a part of that. Sign up for Movember and raise funds by growing your mo, getting active or hosting an event – ladies, note that you're not excluded from those last two options! Don't be shy about reaching out to friends to let them know what you’re doing. You’ll be surprised how much support you’ll get, along with hilarious comments on your Facebook or Instagram feeds.

2. Make it count

3. Grow, baby, grow!

Not everyone is blessed with Tom Selleck-esque hair follicles on their upper lip, which means you can probably do with whatever help you can get to make your mo sprout into something worthy of the name. The keys to success? A healthy diet (take your vitamins), plenty of sleep (aka mo-growing time), exercise (it raises testosterone levels, which support facial hair growth), and no smoking. Adopt this healthy lifestyle and watch your moustache achieve its full potential!

3. Grow, baby, grow!

4. Wear it with confidence, and style

Movember is not the time to be overly self-conscious. Your mo looks great, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Plus, half the fun is seeing the reactions you get as you flaunt your mo around town. That said, don’t skimp on caring for your new friend. You can always try trimming and styling it yourself, but a better option may be to invest in a trip to a barbershop – the more old-school, the better – to get your mo cared for by a professional. If you’ve got a haircut scheduled anyways, it’s a no-brainer to get the moustache looked after as well.

4. Wear it with confidence, and style

5. Be mo-aware

While we suggest dropping the self-consciousness, self-awareness is another matter completely. Your moustache comes with a number of dangers that you need to be aware of. It can and will collect crumbs, towel fuzz and sawdust (carpenters beware!), and it’s your job to watch for this and clean up accordingly. No one wants to be able to guess what you had for lunch by looking at your mo.

You also need to consider your significant other – that is if your moustache hasn’t scared them away. If you notice them shying away from an incoming smooch, it’s probably got to do with the sandpaper-like qualities of your new facial accessory.

5. Be mo-aware

Movember is a time for fun, camaraderie and itchy upper lips as people come together for a good cause. These tips will help you make your Movember one to remember. Happy growing!
