Are you taking care of your skin the right way?

June 19, 2015

Different skin types require different skin routines for their needs. Here are a few natural ways to treat your skin's unique needs.

Are you taking care of your skin the right way?

Dry skin

  • Dry, thirsty skin responds very well to a number of natural formulas. To make a mask with a great natural moisturizer, puree half an avocado with five millilitres (one teaspoon) each of honey and table cream.
  • Oatmeal cleanses and provides moisture. To make a mask, soak 30 millilitres (two tablespoons) of fine oat flakes in 125 millilitres (1/2 cup) of buttermilk for about 30 minutes. Apply a thick layer of the mixture to clean skin.
  • For a rich honey mask, mix together 10 millilitres (two teaspoons) of honey, 30 millilitres (two tablespoons) of plain yogurt and five millilitres (one teaspoon) of wheat flakes.
  • To make a spreadable paste that will revitalize dry skin, stir together 30 millilitres (two tablespoons) of healing earth with five millilitres (one teaspoon) of nurturing almond oil and an equal amount of water.
  • For better skin tone, spread on a thick mask made from 30 millilitres (two tablespoons) of healing earth mixed with five drops of wild rose oil and an equal amount of rose water.
  • Raw, peeled potato slices have long been used as moisturizers. Simply apply the slices to your face for a few minutes after it is cleansed.

Mature skin

Fruit masks are the perfect picker-uppers from the orchard to render saggy skin firm and smooth.

  • Peel and puree a ripe peach and mix with a little facial cream to make a thick paste you can apply to your face, leaving it as soft as the fruit's skin.
  • Grate an unpeeled apple and stir together with 15 millilitres (one tablespoon) of cider vinegar and five millilitres (one teaspoon) of cornstarch for a wrinkle-defying mask.

Sensitive skin

Sensitive skin is not uncommon. With so many chemical-laden products out there, natural options are a must.

  • To make a peppermint mask that promotes circulation and clears up your skin, stir together 25 millilitres (two tablespoons) of finely ground oatmeal with three drops of peppermint oil and an equal amount of hot water. Spread the mask on thick.
  • To make a mask with a calming effect, stir together 25 millilitres (two tablespoons) of healing earth and an equal amount of lukewarm chamomile tea to produce a spreadable paste. Apply and cover with a warm, damp cloth.
