How to clean your stove top with natural products

1. Prep the cleaning area
Depending on what type of kitchen stove you own, you’ll have a different prep list. If you own a glass top stove, there are no burners or grates to remove. For an electrical stove, you’ll want to unplug your burners and set them out of the way. Gas stove owners might find that now is a good time to clean up the plates and burner covers—set those to soak in a sink of hot water while you take care of the stove top.

2. Ready your supplies
Put about ¼ cup of baking soda (precise measurements are not necessary) into a bowl, and add a tablespoon or so of water to that, until you have a paste. If the mixture gets too runny, add some more baking soda.

3. Start spreading
Using a cleaning cloth, an old toothbrush or even your hands, spread the baking soda paste all over your stove top. If the paste gets too dry to spread well, add a drop or two of water. Though a slightly dry paste isn’t all bad—it’s the gritty texture of baking soda that serves as a gently abrasive cleaner, breaking up the dirt on your kitchen stove.

4. Take a break
If you’re not in a rush, let the baking soda paste sit for an hour or longer. If your kitchen stove is really dirty, you can even let the paste sit overnight. While you wait, scrub off the dirty stove top parts soaking in your sink using baking soda paste. After you’ve scrubbed, a spritz of white vinegar will help break up the baking soda residue. Then you can easily rinse them off.

5. Wipe down the stove top
Take a damp cloth and wipe off as much of the baking soda paste as you can. Rinse out your cloth, then take a spray bottle of white vinegar and spray the stove top. You’ll enjoy a satisfying fizz as the vinegar and baking soda react, then you can wipe down the stove again. One last rinse of the cloth and a final water wipe down, and you’ll have a clean and shiny kitchen stove!

6. Reassemble and enjoy
Put any removed parts back, step back and enjoy the lustre of your green and clean kitchen stove top!
