Create your own spa from your pantry

1. Body scrubs

Try this for a heavy-duty body scrub for your feet, knees and elbows.

  • Mix a handful of kosher salt, the juice of half a lemon, and honey until it becomes a paste. You might have to adjust the quantities until you get the right consistency.
  • Apply the scrub to the desired area using a soft, circular motion.
  • Rinse well with warm water and use moisturizer afterwards. Do not use this treatment if you have broken or recently shaved skin.

For a more gentle scrub to use on the rest of your body, try a herbal milk scrub.

  • Mix together a handful of powdered milk and room-temperature chamomile tea to make a paste.
  • Apply to skin and let dry for several minutes.
  • Afterwards, rub off the dried paste and shower with warm water to finish the treatment.

2. Face masks

  • For a toning face, combine a diced English cucumber with one seeded and diced tomato.
  • Apply to your face and relax for 10 minutes. It will be a little messy because of the ingredients, so lie down on a towel with your hair pulled back.
  • For an extra treat, put cucumber slices or damp tea bags over your eyes to reduce puffiness.
  • Wipe and then rinse your face, and remember to moisturize afterwards. This treatment can help with blackheads if used regularly.

3. Hair conditioner

  • For a deep conditioner will make your hair feel silky and smooth, mix one peeled avocado, two tablespoons of heavy cream and one tablespoon of honey into a blender.
  • Comb the conditioner through clean, damp hair.
  • Wrap your head using a plastic grocery bag or cling wrap to keep hair from drying, then cover with a towel. Relax for 15 minutes and rinse.

4. Other pantry ingredients

For scrubs or treatments that hydrate your skin, discover how potato, coffee, oatmeal, bananas, coconut milk and brown sugar can be used. They are all great ingredients you can use from your pantry to create fantastic at-home spa treatments.
