Hiccups, indigestion and bad breath are all easily treatable. These are some simple home remedies that can help with all of them.

Easy remedies for hiccups, indigestion & bad breath

Stop hiccups

  • A sliver of unpeeled lemon dredged with Worcestershire sauce and sugar, chewed and swallowed, is strangely effective.
  • Alternatively, stir a teaspoon of sugar or honey in warm water, hold the mixture on the back of the tongue and swallow it.
  • Take quick sips of cold water, or try bending over, head down, and drinking from the "wrong" side of a glass
  • If all else fails, take a deep breath and hold it for as long as you can. Or, breathe in and out of a paper (never plastic) bag.
  • See your doctor if hiccups persist for more than 48 hours.

Treat painful indigestion

You could take a pill, but there are some simple, natural remedies that can quickly ease your discomfort.

  • Drink a cup of herbal tea. The warmth itself will be soothing, but the herbs you choose will also have an effect. Try ginger, peppermint or camomile.
  • A soup spoonful of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water, sipped slowly, can also bring relief — especially when taken with a meal.
  • For better digestion, naturally, take a regular probiotic supplement of beneficial bacteria.
  • Avoid big, rich, spicy meals. Eat at a moderate pace and try to avoid eating too late at night.
  • If you smoke, quit, and keep your alcohol consumption at a moderate level.

Banish bad breath

  • As a quick fix, swill water around the mouth, spit it out, then drink a glassful.
  • Fresh parsley, cardamom and anise seeds also sweeten breath.
  • Oral hygiene is key. Brush your teeth for a minimum of two minutes at least twice a day, with a small, soft toothbrush. Use a separate toothbrush or scraper for your tongue. Floss daily and see your dentist every six months.

The good news about hiccups, indigestion and bad breath is they're all easily treatable. With the right changes to your diet and daily habits, you can stop each of these quickly and effectively.
