At certain times of the year the winged ants descend upon innocent home owners who are unaware and unprepared for them.

• The flying ant phenomenon is simply a later stage during their colony building, in which reproductive ants (ants with wings) are born.
• For a typical home infestation of flying ants to occur would mean that an existing colony has settled around the home. If you spot flying ants, they have either always been there or in the process of leaving the colony permanently.
• If you encounter these flying ants, here are some helpful home remedies for ridding them from your home:

Dishwashing soap is an effective agent against flying ants, it attaches to their bodies and dehydrates them. However, you are dealing with flying ants that need to be attacked in flight.

• Obtain a spray bottle
• Mix two generous squirts of dish washing liquid with water
• Mix well to make sure the liquid is evenly distributed with the water.

The key to this method is where you place the tape.

• In order to lure the ants into the tape you have to place it as close as possible to a food source with the sticky side up.
• Lay a perimeter of strong adhesive tape around the food source.

• First you must locate where the ant hill is located.
• Boil water in a kettle pot and pour over the hill.
• The process should kill a majority of ants and detract other ones from coming back.

Artificial sweeteners are a good alternative for killing ants.

• Certain types of sweeteners are very toxic for ants. For example, if you mix in the sweetener with apple juice, it forms a viscous paste that the ants will carry back to the colony. Once consumed there, it will kill off a portion of their population.
