Proper grooming and bathing helps us to look and feel our absolute best. Although a shower or bath can get you clean and fresh, it might not be enough to keep you that way all day long. These tips will keep you smelling your best.

8 smart tips for smelling your best

1. Let the air flow.

  • Wear loose-fitting clothes to allow air to circulate around your body and perspiration to evaporate.
  • Tight-fitting clothing causes sweat to be trapped in a film on your skin, which can result in body odour or embarrassing perspiration stains.

2. Wear natural fibres.

  • Buy clothes made from natural fibres such as cotton. They allow skin to breathe, reducing body odour.
  • Avoid synthetic, man-made fibres, such as nylon or Lycra, which may limit ventilation.

3. Help your antiperspirant do its job.

  • Apply antiperspirant when your underarms are a little moist and wet, for example, just after a warm shower or bath.
  • It enables the active ingredients to enter the sweat glands more readily.

4. Stay out of the heat.

Avoid sitting in direct sunlight. It heats your body and causes perspiration, especially in warmer weather.

5. Use baby powder.

Apply baby powder in the morning to help your skin stay drier throughout the day and to reduce odour.

6. Manage stress.

  • Take up yoga. The stress management training will help you control perspiration and body odour better.
  • After heat, stress is probably the top cause of sweating.

7. Freshen up.

  • Wipe a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol onto your underarms during the day to cut down on odour-causing bacteria.
  • Or try witch hazel or tea tree oil, both of which help to keep you dry, kill bacteria and deodorize.

8. Eat your greens.

  • Prepare some greens for dinner each night.
  • Dark-green leafy vegetables such as spinach, chard, parsley and kale are rich in chlorophyll, which has a powerful deodorizing effect on the body.
