White stretch marks are streaks or stripes on the skin, most commonly on the abdomen, caused by growth of the skin from obesity or during pregnancy. Follow these simple steps to get rid of white stretch marks.
Stretch marks usually start off appearing purple or red in colour. As time goes by, they take on a lighter complexion, typically shades lighter than that of a person’s skin colour. In some cases they can fade away altogether, however in a majority of cases they will not disappear on their own.

There are some treatment options available to remove white stretch marks or reduce the visibility them, such as:

  • Homemade remedies are the most cost-effective way to determine if your skin reacts positively to certain ingredients. Things like apricot masks, natural aloe vera, potato juice, lemon, natural oils and egg whites can all be experimented with safely. These are all safe and available over-the-counter or in a grocery store. Check with a doctor if any skin reactions are experienced. Results can vary from person to person.
  • Stretch mark creams. There is a wide variety of creams on the market for stretch marks. Find a cream that has been thoroughly tested and approved by Health Canada. Check reputable sources for user testimonials as well.
  • Laser surgery. Laser technology can be very effective, but is also one of the more costly options. With this method, the tissue around the scar is first stimulated in order for the skin to heal. This typically requires a few treatments to see effective results.
  • Skin surgery. Surgery has proven to be the most effective way to permanently remove aged stretch marks. However, it is also the most expensive. The scarred skin is physically removed during surgery and the unstretched skin is sutured together. The procedure itself can have unwanted side effects like minor scarring from the surgery, however.

Prevention is the best approach to avoiding unwanted stretch marks in the first place. The following simple steps can work to revitalize your skin and prevent stretch marks:

  • Skin hydration. Drink water to keep your skin hydrated and more elastic, less prone and more resilient to damage
  • Moisturize Regular moisturizing of the skin helps maintain strong, elastic skin, reducing the chance of developing stretch marks.
  • Live a healthy lifestyle. Stay active and maintain a healthy diet.
  • Limit sun exposure and wear sunscreen. Avoid exposure to the sun's harmful rays for better skin health. When the skin tans, the stretch marks become more visible as there is increase in colour contrast.

Keep up with as many of the noted preventative suggestions so that it makes it easier to get rid of stretch marks or prevent them altogether.
